Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a Japanese word meaning Spiritual (Rei) Energy (ki). Reiki is one of the oldest forms of energetic healing developed by Master Mikao Usui from Japan in 1922.
However people have practiced Reiki for about 2500 years.
Reiki is a Japanese hands-on, natural healing technique without pressure, manipulation or massage. It promotes relaxation of the body and the mind, assisting the body’s natural healing ability. It helps to clear stagnant energy in the body and promotes relaxation and may assist by helping to reduce stress, tension, anxiety and pain.
Reiki comes from the to ‘universal life force.’
It is a simple energetic healing technique and refers to a system of healing that channels subtle energy to aid the healing process of yourself and others.
Reiki energy flows to wherever the imbalance is. Though you can focus on a healing intention, such as healing back pain, if the energy is needed someplace else in body, or needed on another level (the emotional, mental, or spiritual body), then the energy will flow wherever it's needed for the highest good.
The practitioner serves as the channel for the continuous flow of abundant energy/universal life force that envelops us constantly.
How can Reiki help?
A reiki treatment will encourage your body to reach a state of relaxation and balance where it can heal itself. Reiki works on all levels of your being - physical, emotional spiritual. Studies have shown that reiki complements conventional medical treatments to manage pain, speed up healing times, lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve overall physical and emotional wellbeing.
What to expect during a treatment?
You remain fully clothed during the treatment, seated or lying down. I work with my hands both on or above the body, realigning your energy.
Experiences are unique to the individual. During your rebalancing process you may experience tiredness, feel like you are floating, have extra amounts of energy, physical sensations, light headedness, see colours, or have a wide range of emotions from happiness to sadness.
You may feel heat, cold, a vibration or tingling sensation. Feelings and emotions that have been buried may bubble to the surface, let them. Try not to analyse it too much, just relax and allow the experience unfold. Most people naturally internalise their awareness and lie silently, through the treatment, however if you feel uncomfortable or have a question or comment please feel free to talk.
Reiki can also be done remotley as a distance healing.
What steps should I take following my Reiki session?
Drink lots of water
Eat a nourishing meal
Avoid alcohol and smoking. Reiki cleanses, balances and heals so we don't want to dull our senses. If you can, avoid both for at least 24 hours.
Rest and have a good night’s sleep
You may feel a range of emotions after your session. Some of my clients have said they felt happy, giddy, spacey, anxious, or even sad after a session. There is no right or wrong emotion; whatever happens in a session is what is correct for you at that present time. However, it’s important that you simply allow your emotions to be exactly as they are, without any judgment. In other words be kind to yourself.
